Craton  Craton
A stable portion of the continental crust that has not been affected by significant tectonic events since the Precambrian Eon and that is constituted of relatively flat-lying Precambrian-age igneous and metamorphic rocks. Subdivided into a shield (exposed) and platform (covered).
