Bilingual glossary of geology

Pegmatitic  Pegmatitique
Type of igneous texture. Said very coarse-grained igneous rock (crystals of at least 1 cm). Pegmatites (rocks displaying a pegmatitic texture) typically have a granitic composition, and are found as veins that cross-cut much finer grained country rock. Crystallization from a water-rich magma in the late stages of solidification is believed to be responsible for the very large crystals (adapted from: Plummer et al., 2007).
