Bilingual glossary of geology


Crystal System  Système cristallin
A classification of the various crystalline structures into 6 groups (e.g. cubic, hexagonal, etc.). Each mineral belongs to one (and only one) of the six systems, and therefore develops crystal form(s) that respect the specifications of their respective group. (N.B. the 6 crystal systems will be studied at length in a second year mineralogy course!).
