Rift (continental)  Rift continental
A long and narrow trough within the continental lithosphere developped by the stretching and thinning of the lithosphere, and characterized by the downward movement of lithospheric blocks along normal faults. The formation of a continental rift may lead to the formation of a new ocean basin.
