Gneissosity  Gneissossité
Type of foliation characteristic of gneisses. It is characterized by compositional layering (i.e. alternating layers of felsic and mafic minerals) giving the rock a banded appearance. In a sequence of increasing metamorphic conditions, the development of a gneissic texture follows schistosity.
